Ed Gomes was born in New Bedford, Mass. He is one of eleven children. Ed attended New Bedford Vocational High School, then transferred for his senior year and graduated from Bishop Stang High School in North Dartmouth, Mass. During that year Ed led the Bristol County league in scoring.
It was during my junior year in high that I received Christ as my personal Savior. During this time a couple of friends began to witness to me about my need for Christ. Prior to hearing the gospel, I thought a person became a Christian by doing a number of things to earn God’s favor. After hearing the gospel, I realized that a person becomes a Christian by accepting what Christ already did on the cross. When I realized that I asked Jesus to be my personal Savior. He saved and I have never been the same person since that time.
After graduating from high school in 1972 Ed received a basketball scholarship, but decided to attend Newport Bible School for one year to study the Word of God. While attending Newport Bible School in Newport, Rhode Island Ed was contacted by Liberty (Lynchburg Baptist College) and was offered a basketball scholarship. While at Liberty he earned a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Youth. Upon graduating from Liberty, Ed traveled with the Life Action Ministries (A family centered Revival ministry from Michigan) for two years.

During those five years Ed attended Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary on a part time basis. In 1985, Ed earned his Masters of Religious Education degree from the Seminary. Ed went on later to receive his D. Min. degree from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in May of 2007.
After graduating from seminary, Ed was involved in pastoral ministry for the next 11 years in his hometown.
